IFLA: is an independent, international, non-governmental, not-for-profit organization of public benefit that promotes the interests of library and information associations, libraries and information services, librarians, and the communities they serve throughout the world.

Founded in 1927, IFLA is headquartered in The Hague, the Netherlands.

In fulfilling its purpose, IFLA seeks to:

  • Represent the interests of its members, library and information organizations, and the communities they serve throughout the world.
  • Promote high standards of library and information service provision and professional practice, as well as facilitate access to, protection, and preservation of documentary cultural heritage. This is achieved by fostering professional education, developing professional standards, disseminating best practices, and advancing relevant scholarly and professional knowledge.
  • Encourage widespread understanding of the value and importance of high-quality library and information services in the public, private, and voluntary sectors.
